I'm devastated.
Last spring, I lost an external hard drive — crash down — in which I saved 5 years of manga files, from my most treasured BL gems to the long forgotten files from disbanded scanlation teams. I had accepted the fact that some files were lost for good so I worked on rebuilding a new collection. But a few weeks ago, my computer crashed down — that frigging machine only lasted less than 3 years! whereas my very first computer lasted 8 years!

I've lost again nearly all my precious datas. At least, I could save some of my most important files and part of my work in progress, but I still lost a helluva lot of datas.

I'm tired. My new computer has arrived only a few days ago. I'm struggling to catch up with the most urgent works needing all my attention. And now, I fear a new catastrophe so as soon as I get 700Mb of datas, I burn them on a CD. Lord, I'm depressed.

*hugx* I'm REALLY sorry to hear that. I know how devastating it is to lose everything you saved on your ext. HD..esp. from disbanded scanlation groups.

My advice is to get two reputable brand ext HD. One as your primary and the other as the backup of that primary. AT least you have a backup just in case anything happens to your PC or either ext. HD. That's what I'm doing right now. If you have to burn it on CD, make sure you re-back it up every 2 years or so coz datas degrade on CDs the longer they are kept...

If you can also, screencap all the mangas in your inventory with the title, scan group name and date --so you'll know what you had and try and get the files if the unthinkable happens.

Good luck with your new PC *hugz*

Thank you sweetie. I'll think about that idea of the 2 ext. HD, though I'm a bit weary right now with technology. After losing twice my manga collection painstakingly saved on HD for years, I'm kinda mentally prepared for the next catastrophe.

This time, it hurts more because my recently dead computer hosted the access codes for many sites and mailboxes. And it's only after I got the new computer that I found out my backup CD copy for those access codes doesn't contain the updated infos. So I also lost many access codes for good.

I'm now using a real notebook and write down with a real pen all codes to the different sites I need to register again when I can't remember what were the logins and passwords I've used in the past.
